How many diets have you been on?
Did any of them work? Permanently? If so, I congratulate you! For most people, however, diets DON'T work!

Why? One reason is because we may not be emotionally ready to be slender. Many of us use excess weight as a shield to protect ourselves from attention. Or we may simply use food as a comfort device. Either way, we are misusing food and harming our bodies!

Weight Loss: A Quick Reference Guide provides guidance on the subject of family resistance (as well as many other areas connected with weight loss issues). Although the dynamics in each family is different, the technique is the same: set healthy boundaries. And there are many ways to do this.

A Story of Fierce Determination and Perseverance! This book has been compared to Why the Caged Bird Sings and Bastard Out of Carolina by a Texas State University Library staff member. It is a story of triumph, and it proves that a young girl's history does not have to be her

This quote sums up this memoir perfectly:  "Success is not measured by what a man accomplishes, but by the opposition he has encountered and the courage with which he has maintained the struggle against overwhelming odds." ~Charles Lindbergh

Recommended Nonfiction

Finally, a book that explains the importance of being an introvert! If you wonder why you need so much time alone, this book tells you why.

Susan Anderson is THE expert on abandonment issues and healing. I've read other books on this subject, but she is the best. I recommend reading Black Swan first.

I highly recommend any books by Harriet Lerner, but the Dance of Anger was my favorite.

Recommended Fiction

For pure reading pleasure, my current favorite authors are Ken Follett, Harlan Coben, Jefferson Bass, and - believe it or not - Nora Roberts. Included below are my favorites.

Ken Follett specializes in historical fiction. By far my favorite was Pillars of the Earth - a lengthy tome, but worth the read.

Coben's work is suspenseful and usually has a underlying lesson worth learning. Caught was by far my favorite.

Nora Robert's novels have a plot greater than the romance theme she is known for. Her protaganist is usually a strong, independent woman who is resistant to love but succumbs to it in the end. Perfect for a rainy day!

The plot was superb in this novel set in Alaska. Worth the read!
